Checking on sickbay

Posted on Sun Jul 5th, 2020 @ 7:28am by Commodore Jack Pike & Lieutenant Commander Mutara Romaine

Mission: Mission 3 Ghost Station
Location: Sickbay

After meeting his new First Officer Jack made his way down to sick bay, he looked around then made his way over to the office knocking on the door frame. "How are you liking your new sick bay Doctor?"

Tara turned around but wasn't smiling one bit, "Oh hi. I am so glad you're here. I don't know if someone is playing a joke on me or what?" She sighed, "Some of the equipment isn't working and there are things missing. And to top it off, I get a comunique that our new Executive Officer is to be expected for some dermal regeneration and she is more than an hour late. I've got so much to do to get sickbay ready before they give us something to do. I don't have time for this!"

Just then, a loud crashing noise rang throughout sickbay as a few things slid towards them. A flustered nurse cursed under her breath, "I'm so sorry Dr. Romaine. I swear sickbay has gremlins, poltergeist or something." She then looked over at Jack and turned red, "Oh, Commodore Pike, I didn't'll have this cleaned up right away...sir." She bent down to pick up an item when she bumped him, "Oh god, I...sorry."

"Forget it. I'll take care of it. Go check on the medicine inventory." Tara just shook her head, "See what I mean?"

Jack looked over watching what was all going on then looked to Tara shaking his head "The joys of breaking in a brand new ship." He leaned against the doorway folding his arms across his chest "I'll have an engineering team down here right away to check over things."

"That would be great." She picked up what the nurse was trying to when the nurse bumped into him. She straightened up, "I'm also waiting for the medkits I ordered but with they way things are going, they probably got lost as well." She shrugged it off, "I've been so rattled with what's going on here, how is everything on your end going?"

Jack walked over and started to help her straighten up "Well besides getting this new ship and a promotion, I've also met the new First Officer."

Tara stopped what she was doing, "You have? Well that explains why she's late." She smiled as she lowered her voice, "Do tell. What's she like?" Tara was still not sure why the new XO needed a dermal regenerator, "Is she pretty?"

Jack chuckled shaking his head "Well it would be security's fault there, she has been surgically altered as a Romulan for some covert mission and they brought her to me on her way to sick bay."

"What the?" She laughed, "Oh boy. If that was me, I'd be mortified. Well, at least she only looked like a Romulan. She could have looked like a Tellarite or a Ferengi." She was still laughing, "So much for first impressions."

Jack looked at her "I honestly think that she was slightly mortified. She could have also looked like an Orion slave girl too." He chuckled.

"She makes what is happening here in Sickbay not look so bad. I could really use a few more medical staff. The two I have, well, let's say that they are nervous as hell." She looked around to see if they were in earshot, "Do you think they know that I'm the Captain's girl? It's like they're afraid of doing anything wrong. It's just, weird."

"Least nurse Trela'dae will be coming aboard tomorrow." Jack looked at her then almost busted out laughing "Yeah I think that they know you are the Commodore's woman."

"Hmm, maybe I can use this to my advantage." She got a mischievous look on her face, "Maybe by having a new staff, I can now get things done my way."

Jack looked at her raising an eyebrow "Oh yeah that you could huh?" He folded his arms across his chest. "So are you saying that Trela'dae isn't a good nurse."

Tara exhaled, "No, I'm not saying that at all. She's good at what she does but her bedside manner sucks. She never smiles nor does she understand that people are not machines, they have feelings. Holding the patient's hand or giving them words of encouragement, well, she doesn't know how to do that. Why is she even a nurse anyways? She's Vulcan." After she said that, she realized how that sounded, "I mean, there isn't anything wrong with her being Vulcan but they just shouldn't be...nurses."

"Just because Vulcans don't have the bedside manner like others don't mean they can't be good Doctors or nurses."

"I never said that they can't be good doctors but showing a little empathy could help make them even better." She didn't want to argue about it, "How about we agree to disagree."

Jack nodded looking at her "Very well, oh by the way all of your stuff has been placed in our quarters."

"Oh good. The way things were going, I thought that would get messed up as well." She smiled, "I guess it's official. We're roomies."

Jack gave her a smirk "That we are." He then pulled out a box "Would you like to be roommates for life?"

Tara almost jumped out of her skin, "Jack, what did you do? Is that?" After saying that, she felt silly because for all she knew, it could be anything.

Jack gave her a big smile then opened the box "Yes this is a ring." He turned the box towards her to show the ring.

Tara looked at the ring and squealed, "Jack! Yes, yes! I would love to be your roommate for life."

Jack took the ring out of the box then taking her hand and placed it onto her finger "I love you Tara." He then kissed her on the lips.

"I love you too." She admired the ring on her finger, "It's beautiful." She couldn't wait to share it with family and friends.

Jack smiled "I am glad that you said yes and like the ring." He let out a small sigh "Well I probably should make my way to the bridge and check on things there."

"I don't like the ring, I love it." She leaned in and kissed him again, "If you must. Dinner later?"

Jack kissed her back "I am glad that you do, you know that I must check on all things on the new ship." He smiled at her "Sure dinner tonight works."

"Okay, see you then." She smiled, "I love you."

"I love you too. I'll see you tonight." Jack looked at her for a second before turning around to leave sick bay.
